Toshiba Keyboard Not Working

Toshiba Laptop Keyboard Not Working

If you are a user of Toshiba laptops or keyboards manufactured by Toshiba and somehow you  are facing the issue of Toshiba keyboard not working or Toshiba laptop keyboard not working, there could be one of the following reasons:

  •     Keyboard is not working at all.
  •     Keys pressed on the keyboard do not match the characters on the screen.
  •     Touchpad/Trackpoint is not working.

Following are the troubleshooting steps to resolve the issues:

    Toshiba Keyboard is not working at all:

  • Had been some liquid poured over? Remove the battery if possible and keep the laptop in power off  state for a while.
  • Reboot the computer. Press and hold the power button until the unit powers are off.
  • Disconnect external devices if any (e.g. external mouse, keyboard, printer, USB devices etc.).
  • If the keyboard works after removing external devices, then issue might be with the external device. Check every external device to see which device is the cause of failure.
  • Use an external PS/2 or USB keyboard if not already done. If it works, proceed to next step.
  • Now, make a BIOS update with the help of an external keyboard.
  • Once when you are sure that BIOS update is working with the external keyboard, check that if in-built keyboard of laptop is working after this update.

    Keys pressed on the keyboard do not match the characters on the screen :

  •     Reboot the computer as stated in step 2 above , then follow the step 3 to see which external device is the cause of the failure.
  •     Use external PS/2 or USB keyboard, if you have not already gone through this step.
  •     Check if the correct language was selected in the region and language options.

    Toshiba Touchpad/Trackpoint is not working :

  • Kindly check if your touchpad is not disabled, if it is , enable it by pressing Fn-F9.
  •     If you are using external devices(e.g. External keyboard, flash drives, printer etc.), disconnect all the devices. If the touchpad works after removing all the devices, then, problem is with one of the devices.
  •     Check that which device is causing the failure and avoid using that device.
  •     You can also reinstall the latest driver by clicking on Start->Control Panel->Device Manager .
  • Remove the mouse from the Device Manager and reinstall it with the latest driver available.
